Resources for Walkers

We can't tell you how grateful we are to have you walking with Team Jonah. Below is a letter we wrote for our walkers to use to send out to family and friends. All you need to do is print it out, sign your name at the bottom, and mail it out. You can also copy it to an email and send it out that way. If you like, please feel free to add to the letter to make it more personal. For example, it would be great to include how you know Jonah, and what your personal fundraising goal is.

A huge part of Team Jonah's success lies in our walkers' ability to raise money. You are able to reach many people we would not be able to on our own. Since our first walk in 2006, Team Jonah has raised just over $425,000 for the CF Foundation! We hope to raise at least $15,000 this year. Please help us get there by setting a personal fundraising goal. Thank you for helping us raise life-saving research to improve Jonah's life, along with the 30,000 other people in the United States who battle this awful disease every day.

Thank you again for your support of Jonah and our family. Please let us know if you have any questions!

Sincerely,

Rob, Marikka, Jonah, Javan, and Ansley Ostermann

Walk Information

Team Jonah will be participating in the Long Beach Great Strides Walk on Saturday, June 1st. The walk is held at El Dorado Park in Long Beach. Check-in begins at 8:30 am and the walk begins at 10:00 am. We would like to take our team picture at 9:15 am, so please be sure to arrive by then. A light breakfast will be served before the 5K walk, and lunch is provided at the end. Strollers and wagons are welcome for little ones! If you have not received your Team Jonah t-shirt before the walk, we will have it for you that morning as long as you have registered. Just look for the Team Jonah signs to find us!

Thank you!

Fundraising Ideas

  • Make a personal donation toward your fundraising goal.
  • Ask about matching donations at work. Many companies will match the donation that an employee gives to a non-profit. Ask at work if your company will!
  • Send out donation request letters to family and friends. We have a sample letter in the Walker Resources and we will also send you the link after you register. This letter is ready for you to print and mail as is, but you can also easily make a few changes to make it more personal, such as including how you know Jonah and what your personal fundraising goal is. Some people prefer to mail their letter, others prefer to email it, and others do both. Your willingness to send out letters will help us reach many people that we couldn't reach on our own.
  • Involve your kids! From lemonade stands to coin drives that requested “Jonations,” lots of Team Jonah kids have gotten involved with fundraising! Involving your kids is a simple and wonderful way to teach them the value of service and generosity.
  • Be Creative!! Here are some of the other fabulous ideas Team Jonah walkers have done to meet their fundraising goals:
    • Have a Movie Night! Jonah's Uncle Trevor and Tante Star have held a movie night fundraiser in the past. They projected a movie in their backyard and provided snacks, dinner, dessert, beverages, and wine, most of which they were able to get donated by local businesses. They asked each attendee for a suggested donation to the CF Foundation of $20, although many people gave more.
    • Host a Poker Night! A cousin has organized a poker night fundraiser in the past. He provides snacks and charges a $20 buy-in donation to the CF Foundation in order to play. For the first part of the evening he allows people to buy-in as many times as they want. The top winners of the evening win prizes, some of which he has been able to get donated.
    • Organize a restaurant fundraising night. Many restaurants offer fundraising events that you can set up with the manager. All you have to do is pass out flyers to your family and friends (many times the restaurant will even provide the flyers). When people come in to eat on the scheduled day with the flyer, the restaurant will donate a percentage of the profits to the CF Foundation, which will be credited toward your fundraising goal.
